Looksmaxxer Whose Wig Got Snatched On Air Traveled To Thailand For A Hair Transplant At 24 Years Old

On a recent appearance on The Sam Hyde Show, Australian looksmaxing content creator Androgenic opened up about his hair journey.

During the conversation, host Sam Hyde ran through a list of procedures and physical changes, prompting Androgenic to confirm each one.

When asked directly whether he had been wearing a wig, he didn’t hesitate. “Yep,” he said.

He acknowledged that the moment his wig was pulled off had already circulated widely among viewers, noting that many people treated it like a dramatic reveal rather than something he intended to hide.

Reflecting on how the incident spread across social media, he said, “Most people just see like me getting my wig snatched off and thinking that was a secret and then seeing me like clip farm pretend to get in some confrontation with a guy or girl.”

The conversation then shifted to the hair transplant he underwent in Thailand, which he described as more physically demanding than he expected.

Recalling the experience, he said, “They needled my scalp with topical anesthetic that barely worked. It was fairly hard, but you know, you have to experience it for a bit.”

When Hyde asked whether the procedure involved only needling, Androgenic admitted he didn’t fully understand the technical details but described the general process as he experienced it.

“I don’t even know the exact process,” he said. “They like take every graft out individually, like 5,000 grafts. Or 3,000, I think. And they implant them. With like kind of a needle.”

Hyde pressed him on whether the transplant ranked among the toughest physical experiences of his life. Androgenic acknowledged that it likely did.

The discussion then turned to cost, where he emphasized how relatively affordable the procedure was compared to expectations in Western countries.

“Nah, really cheap. Three and a half thousand,” he said.

During the conversation, he also talked about how his name came to be. “It’s essentially the adjective of androgen, which is male hormone. So if something’s androgenic, it’s masculine on the hormonal level,” he said.

Despite the cosmetic nature of the procedures, Androgenic stressed that his motivations were not purely about appearance. He framed the decision to undergo surgery as both a personal commitment and a statement within the looksmaxxing community.

Explaining his reasoning, he said: “No one that’s in the looksmaxxing space and is like a big creator has actually gone forward and gotten surgeries. Like everyone says they’re going to get surgeries, but no one does it.”

He added that he wanted to demonstrate follow-through rather than simply talk about change.

“So I wanted to be a person who instantly says, ‘I’m getting this done.’ And then within 2 weeks, I’m literally going under the knife,” he said.

He also described documenting his recovery publicly as a deliberate mental exercise, one designed to test how much his identity was tied to his physical appearance.

Reflecting on that period, he said: “I wanted to test my mind’s ability to detach looks from my identity because I looked awful during that period.”

He explained that he intentionally shared unflattering images of himself during recovery, even as they attracted widespread attention online.

“And I spam posted myself looking awful all over social media getting millions of views,” he said.

Despite the negative optics, he said the experience ultimately reinforced his sense of self. “And I looked in the mirror and I honestly was still happy,” he said.
