Longevity Guru Dave Asprey Claims He’s Been on TRT Since He Was 26

Biohacker and longevity expert Dave Asprey recently talked about his decades-long experience with testosterone replacement therapy in a recent YouTube video. His journey began far earlier than most would expect, and his revelations offer insight into a topic many men face but few discuss openly.

Asprey’s relationship with testosterone therapy began in his twenties under surprising circumstances. “Even though I was 26, I went to see the first longevity doctor in Silicon Valley,” he explained. “When he saw my lab test, he said, ‘Dave, your testosterone is lower than your mother.'”

The doctor presented him with a stark choice: “You can go on injections, but you may have to take these forever, or you could just accept having man boobs, being fat, and tired all the time.” Asprey’s response was straightforward: “I said, ‘Okay.’ And I went on testosterone therapy, and it changed my life.”

Now 52 chronologically but with lab markers of a 35-year-old, Asprey reports remarkable results. “My testosterone levels are higher now than they were when I was 25,” he stated. He emphasized the long-term nature of his therapy: “I’ve been on testosterone therapy the vast majority of my life after age 26.”

Asprey directly addresses one of the most common concerns about TRT. “Some people, fearmongers, will tell you if you go on testosterone, you have to be on it for life. This is not true,” he said. He proved this himself: “I’ve learned how to naturally move my testosterone up into low normal, even though I’ve been on testosterone therapy for many years.”

After more than two decades of injections, Asprey has transitioned to a newer method. “What I do now that is really incredible is I track my levels using Axo Health and I take testosterone pills,” he shared. “This new form of testosterone is called testosterone undecanoate and Kyzatrex is the name brand.”

His current regimen is simple: “Every morning you take two pills, at lunch you take two more pills, and then you have testosterone like a man should.”

Asprey is clear about his stance on TRT for men over 40. “If you want to live a very long time, once you hit your mid-40s, you’re probably going to need testosterone if you’re a man and you’re alive,” he stated.

He believes the benefits extend beyond performance: “Evidence shows that if you go on testosterone replacement, especially if your levels are low and you’re aging, you will live longer and reduce your risk of all sorts of health problems.”

His final recommendation balances natural optimization with medical intervention: “I recommend taking care of your body and replacing testosterone as long as your labs tell you you need it.”

The biohacker has also confirmed he underwent a facelift after observers began questioning noticeable changes in his face, a revelation that surprised many given his long-standing emphasis on anti-aging through supplements, diets, and non-invasive optimization.

Asprey framed the procedure as another form of self-improvement rather than a contradiction, explaining that significant past weight loss left him with excess facial skin that couldn’t be addressed through biohacking alone. He later said the surgery was followed by stem cell injections, fat grafting, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy to accelerate recovery, tools he argues are no different from any other optimization strategy.

While critics see hypocrisy in a figure who promotes “natural” longevity methods turning to cosmetic surgery, Asprey has been unapologetic. He insists that using medical intervention when needed is consistent with his belief that aging should be actively managed, not passively accepted.
