KSI vs Conor McGregor was pitched to Misfits as a “done deal” in Alcatraz by Turki Alalshikh—but Conor’s no longer interested

Mams Taylor, the head of Misfits Boxing, has disclosed that a highly anticipated bout between YouTube sensation KSI and UFC superstar Conor McGregor was once considered a “done deal” according to His Excellency Turki Alalshikh.

The potential mega-fight, which was reportedly set to take place at the historic Alcatraz prison, ultimately fell through, with McGregor seemingly losing interest in the crossover boxing match.

Speaking on Misfits News, Taylor revealed:

“Everyone knows the Conor McGregor one. We thought it was a done deal. We were told it was a done deal.”

When asked if the arrangement came through Turki Alalshikh, Taylor confirmed:

“Yes.”

He also verified that the bout was intended to take place at Alcatraz.

The excitement surrounding this potential matchup was palpable, with Taylor noting that

“That got KSI more excited than I’ve ever seen him.”

He described KSI‘s reaction as being “like a little kid,” showcasing just how significant this opportunity was for the British YouTube star.

However, despite the initial optimism, Taylor remained cautious, advising KSI:

“Look even though everyone’s saying it’s a done deal just dial it back because it’s Conor McGregor. We don’t know. This is a new situation for all of us. Let’s wait and see.”

As for why the card never materialized, Taylor admitted he wasn’t directly involved in the negotiations with McGregor but referenced a recent statement by the Irishman that “subtly” addressed the situation. Taylor alluded to McGregor‘s potential retirement from combat sports and his political aspirations as possible factors.

“His excellency is one person that can make that fight happen and hopefully he will because I don’t think there’s many bigger fights than that on the planet,”

Taylor added, still holding out hope for the matchup.

The revelation comes amid a challenging period for Misfits Boxing, which recently canceled two events, including one featuring KSI against Dillon Danis due to KSI‘s illness.

Taylor emphasized that moving forward, KSI is only interested in taking on “big fights” where he’s considered the underdog, suggesting that the YouTube star is focusing on legacy-building contests rather than easier matchups.

In a candid moment during the BKFC press conference, Conor McGregor disclosed that he was recently offered to headline a card at Alcatraz – and promptly turned it down.

“There was an opportunity or a deal to fight in Alcatraz,”

McGregor revealed.

“I believe it was for an event in June, and they came to me, but it wasn’t my worth.”

The statement is quintessential McGregor – a blend of confidence, selectiveness, and an unwavering belief in his own value. He elaborated on his reasoning, stating,

“As a fighter, we’ve got to know our worth.”

McGregor backed up his claim with an impressive track record.

“I hold every pay-per-view record in the book. I hold every gate record in the book,”

he declared. These aren’t mere boasts – they’re a testament to his unprecedented draw in combat sports.

Looking ahead, McGregor is positioning his potential comeback as something monumental.

“My comeback will be slated as the greatest comeback or the biggest, most anticipated comeback of all time,”he proclaimed.

Whether the KSI vs McGregor bout will ever be revived remains uncertain, but the mere possibility of such a crossover spectacle taking place at Alcatraz prison demonstrates the ambitious vision behind modern influencer boxing.
