Khabib condemns brawl, makes peace with Chimaev after UFC 280: ‘We’re tired of this nonsense’

Khabib Nurmagomedov called the incident between his cousin Abubakar Nurmagomedov and unbeaten welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 280 last weekend as “nonsense.” He also said that he and his team were “tired” of dealing with it.

Islam Makahchev was cornered by Nurmagomedov who even got to put the belt on him in the cage.  Makhachev won the title via arm-triangle submission over Charles Oliveira in the second round.

Khabib’s cousin Abubakar got into a physical altercation with Chimaev during Makhachev octagon’s speech. The two were cordial at first with Chimaev escalating and shoving Abubakar as Khabib looked on from inside the cage.

Following the pay-per-view match, Khabib, Makhachev, Chimaev, and others were summoned by their dictator patron to make peace.

Khabib Nurmagomedov expressed his opinion on the confrontation between Chimaev and his cousin Abubakar. He remarked,

“What happened yesterday does not show us well. Neither me, nor Khamzat, nor Abubakar. To tell the truth, we are tired of this nonsense!”

“Here we are gathered together as brothers. We talked to each other, and we apologized to each other, hugged. And Inshallah, I hope that in the future that we will only gather and fight for good reasons.”

Khabib added: “Today Islam won the belt, he’s the first. The next one is very close, and it’s gonna be Khamzat. And Khamzat let us all get together. So when Khamzat wins the belt, it’s not for showing off, not for this conversation, that we are going to celebrate. We will celebrate for our new champion, Inshallah.”

“I hope that our sad moment right here, that it will never happen to anyone else again. So that people don’t talk badly about us, we will always be together as brothers, Inshallah.”
