Khabib inaccurately trashed Charles Oliveira’s BJJ — ‘You tap eight times in UFC’

UFC veteran Khabib Nurmagomedov inaccurately trash talked Charles Oliveira recently despite previously saying he has nothing against Oliveira and that media is cooking up the animosity between the two teams.

The former lightweight champion believes that Oliveira has no ground game as he “tapped 8 times”.

Charles Oliveira is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous grapplers in the UFC right now and perhaps of all time considering he holds the record for most submissions – more than Demian Maia and Royce Gracie.

However, Oliveira had a hard time in his early UFC run in 2010. The Brazilian suffered several losses before starting a win streak in 2018 and breaking UFC records. Recently, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who trains Islam Makhachev, insulted Oliveira for his past failings. Khabib claimed that Oliveira has no skill on the ground and inaccurately said Oliveira tapped 8 times.

“This is what Islam going to do with Charles Oliveira. He is going to ride him like you ride a horse. Save this video, because a lot of people underestimate Islam. They think Charles Oliveira has a ground game. He doesn’t have a ground game. If you tap eight times in the UFC, how can you say you have a ground game? You tap eight times!” Khabib said.

Charles Oliveira has 8 losses in his professional MMA career which only 3 of them he lost via submission. First one was a kneebar by Jim Miller and the other two were guillotine chokes by Anthony Pettis and Ricardo Lamas.

Oliveira is currently on his 11th win and became lightweight champion in May of last year, but defended his title only one time against Dustin Poirier. He had to be stripped off of his title after the weigh scale snafu at UFC 274.

After defeating Justin Gaethje, Oliveira is slated to face Islam Makhachev for the vacant lightweight belt. The pair will headline UFC 280 PPV on October 22 this weekend and will take place in Abu Dhabi.

During a talk with Denis Shkuratov and Kacper Rosolowski on the Submission Radio podcast, Adesanya’s coach Eugene Bareman previously expressed he used to respect Khabib because he is focused on MMA and just MMA . He never tried to clout chase and trash other athletes.

“The thing that I used to respect about him the guys like Khabib and that, is they were purists. All they did was fight. Don’t worry about the media. Just get on with your job and fight. But now, the game has got to them as well. Khabib talks more sh*t about other fighters than anybody,” Bareman told Submission Radio.
