Khabib dreams of opening a gym in Palestine one day to help train future champions

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has revealed one of his most cherished dreams, establishing a training facility in Palestine to develop the next generation of world-class athletes. During an evening event in Chicago, the retired MMA star shared his vision for giving back to the Palestinian people through sport expressing hope for a future where young Palestinians can represent their nation on the world stage.

When discussing the ongoing situation in Gaza and Palestine, Khabib painted a vivid picture of his aspirations.

“My dream, one of them, my dreams in this life, you know, I have dream when they going to have their own country, they build beautiful airport, you know,”

he told the captivated audience. His vision extends beyond infrastructure to creating opportunities for Palestinian youth through mixed martial arts training.

The Dagestani MMA star, known for his undefeated 29-0 record and dominant wrestling style, sees Palestine as fertile ground for producing elite athletes.

“I open there my school. I bring coaches because they are very happy. Open my school. I enjoy having him. Yes. Bring some good, very good coaches and train them,”

Khabib explained. His plan involves not just opening a facility, but importing experienced coaches to ensure the highest quality training for aspiring competitors.

Khabib’s confidence in Palestinian potential is unwavering.

“You know, I believe so many top athletes have come from there and they going to represent their beautiful country around the world,”

he stated drawing applause from the crowd. This belief stems from his observation of the Palestinian people’s resilience and strength, qualities he considers essential for producing champions.

The UFC legend has been vocal about his support for Palestine over the past two years using his massive platform to raise awareness despite potential risks to his reputation and business interests. He noted that the situation has actually led to increased interest in Islam, with over 400,000 people converting to the religion during this period.

“Allah used them to promote his religion around the world,”

he reflected on the Palestinian struggle.

Khabib’s vision for a Palestinian training facility aligns with his broader philosophy about sport as a vehicle for education, discipline, and character development. Throughout his career and now as a coach he has emphasized that creating champions involves more than just physical training, it requires instilling values, discipline, and mental fortitude.

By committing to bring world-class coaching and resources to Palestine, Khabib aims to give young Palestinians the same opportunities that transformed him from a mountain village grappler into a global icon.

His message to the Palestinian people was one of patience and steadfastness. When asked what he would tell Palestinians enduring ongoing difficulties, Khabib emphasized the importance of sabr—patience and perseverance in the face of adversity. This virtue, deeply rooted in Islamic teaching, reflects his belief that their struggle will ultimately be rewarded.

Transferring this knowledge to Palestine could indeed create a new generation of champions who carry their nation’s flag with pride on the international stage.
