Khabib confirms retirement decision is final, refuses to say which he prefers: Coaching or competing

Khabib Nurmagomedov is the latest inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame. Khabib Nurmagomedov has retired from his professional MMA career undefeated (29-0). He’s now very determined to become a noteworthy promoter.

Khabib Nurmagomedov retired upon his mother’s request after the passing of his father. For Nurmagomedov, his father was the biggest influence in his career because he served as his father, coach, cornerman and even promoter early on.

After his father passed away, Khabib Nurmagomedov competed one last time. He defeated Justin Gaethje in October 2020, and then he announced his retirement from mixed martial arts live on PPV.

Fans continue to wonder why he would leave the sport that made him infamous while he was at the peak.

Nurmagomedov made an appearance at a Class A Events conference in Toronto. He discussed the decision to retire explaining:

“Because of I finish my career, because I promise mother, that’s why this one question, discussion between me and my mother become very famous. But we had a lot of different things people don’t know about this.”

“Not only this promise. I follow not only this promise to my mother. I follow everything about Mother. You can have friends or kids, whatever. You can have whatever you want, but you’re never going to have one more mother. You have only one mother. For me, it’s everything. For me, it’s everything.”

“I love mother because of millions and millions of reason. I know even in Dagestan, this is not about Dagestan, but I know a lot of people have bad relationship with parents.”

“I really, really don’t understand this. How can people have bad relationship with parents? Yes, mother, for me is everything. Even now, she is still with me, like living with me in same house. I treat her like queen.”

Oddly, there was a question Nurmagomedov refused to answer. One audience member asked Nurmagomedov which he preferred fighting or coaching to which Khabib answered ‘Next question’.
