Justin Gaethje is the new Tony Ferguson: An intimidating look at the faces of his last four opponents

Justin Gaethje talked a bit about being the most entertaining guy on the UFC roster heading into 286.

“I’m the most exciting fighter that has ever stepped in that Octagon in the history of this sport,” Gaethje said. “Of course, I pride myself on that. …I don’t just believe it, you all (the media) believe it. You know it to be true. It’s not on purpose, it’s who I am. It’s how I compete. I’m cut from this cloth, as they say.”

Dana White was told about this statement and he mostly agreed saying Gaethje probably is one of the most exciting.

Gaethje certainly proved it with a brave performance at UFC 286 against Rafael Fiziev.

Gaethje even finally broke out his wrestling and attempted a takedown, but Fiziev was hip to the threat, and landed another knee in the final minute.

Fiziev’s face went viral thanks to the damage he had taken.

But UFC fans pointed out this is more of a trend than an outlier.

Michael Chandler’s face resembled that of an alien after a war with Gaethje. For those who are spacing out, Chandler even had his son not recognize him thanks to the amount of swelling there was in his face.

And this wasnt’ the worst of it either. Gaethje is widely credited for derailing the career of Tony Ferguson after a head-on collision type war.

Ferguson dropped a decision to Gaethje and was never the same again. Since then, he’s fallen quite a bit from grace and is even unranked right now with Kevin Lee confirming he’s set to rematch Ferguson in his welterweight debut later this year.

Gaethje also made light work of another former UFC lightweight champion in Eddie Alvarez.

Despite the damage taken, Alvarez did manage to get a nod from the judges and defeat Gaethje.

Gaethje’s two recent losses come from Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira. In both cases, he was outgrappled and never really had a decent chance to showcase his striking.
