Junior dos Santos, Hector Lombard Sign With Eagle FC

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Eagle FC got more renowned names to fill their roster. Previously, UFC veteran Diego Sanchez and Kevin Lee signed contracts to fight under the Eagle FC banner.

The former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is the latest to join the fairly new MMA promotion. Khabib Nurmagomedov was the one to break this news. Talking to ESPN, Khabib revealed that the 38-year-old Brazilian is scheduled to headline an event on May 20th. He is set to fight against fellow UFC veteran Yorgan De Castro.

Khabib also revealed other UFC veterans who joined his promotion. Those fighters will also fight as another card for that event. The co-main event will be a fight between two former UFC fighters Hector Lombard and Thiago Silva. The event is expected to be held at FLXcast Arena in Miami.

Junior dos Santos was released from the UFC on March 3rd last year. ‘Cigano’ wasn’t doing so well for the last couple of his fights. He suffered four consecutive losses since 2019 against names like Francis Ngannou and Cyril Gane.  Dos Santos got knocked out during all of those fights. His latest fight was against Cyril Gane at UFC 256 in December of 2020. Junior dos Santos has a professional MMA record consisting of 21 wins and 9 losses.

His opponent Yorgan de Castro already has one fight within Eagle FC. He fought Shaun Asher in January and managed to put his opponent in a rear-naked choke early in the first round. De Castro was a former UFC roster and has a score of 8-3. He won all the fights except the ones within the UFC.

As for the co-main event, Hector Lombard was fresh out of BKFC. The former Bellator champion and UFC and BKFC veteran suffered 6 consecutive losses and 1 no contest in his last  7 MMA fights. However, the 44-year-old has gone 3-1 in BKFC. Thiago Silva will have his first fight since 2019.
