Jon Jones credits Conor McGregor with making MMA a success

In the world of mixed martial arts, two names have reigned supreme for over a decade: Jon Jones and Conor McGregor.

Jones burst onto the scene over 15 years ago at UFC 87 and has since left an indelible mark on the sport. He has claimed titles in both the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions, solidifying his status as one of the greatest combatants in MMA history.

Amidst Jon Jones’ remarkable journey to dominance emerged an Irish sensation destined for stardom. Conor McGregor took the UFC by storm, climbing the ranks to become a two-division world champion. He held both the featherweight and lightweight titles simultaneously.

McGregor’s unique blend of trash-talk and promotional skills made him the biggest name in the business. McGregor still holds eight of the UFC’s top 10 highest-selling pay-per-views in its 30-year history.

During a recent episode of the OverDogs podcast, Jon Jones showered Conor McGregor with praise and acknowledged McGregor’s unparalleled contribution to the sport’s growth.

Jones expressed: “I’d love to see McGregor come back. He will always get my PPV. I love what he did for the sport.”

“I love the businessman that he is, the mindset, the marketability. I mean he fast-forwarded this whole game up at least 10 years. And he’s always going to have my support.”

Following his win at UFC 205, McGregor secured the lightweight title by defeating Eddie Alvarez. He then temporarily traded his four-ounce gloves for eight-ounce boxing gloves.

McGregor entered the squared circle to face the legendary Floyd Mayweather. While McGregor ultimately succumbed to a 10th-round TKO, his ability to challenge one of the sport’s greatest boxers was commendable.

Recently, McGregor concluded his role as a coach on season 31 of the TUF reality series and is gearing up for a highly-anticipated return to the octagon. His opponent will be Michael Chandler. Currently, the exact date and location of this much-anticipated clash remain a subject of debate.
