John Wick actor talks snapping Mike Tyson’s finger accidentally

Boxing icon Mike Tyson has been known to achieve success outside the boxing ring. He has made his mark in Hollywood, starring in various films and TV shows, and his acting career seems to be on the rise.

However, things don’t always go as planned, even when everything is choreographed. Donnie Yen, the martial arts actor who starred alongside Tyson in the 2015 film ‘Ip Man 3’, recently revealed how he accidentally broke Tyson’s pinky finger during a shoot.

During a recent appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’, Yen shared that they were shooting a scene where Tyson was throwing a flurry of punches at him.

Yen was doing a Wing Chun style block where he had to use a lot of short elbow movements. Although the scene went smoothly, Yen claimed that the media was concerned for him after the session with Tyson.

The following day, they had a press conference, and reporters asked Yen about his experience working with Tyson and whether he was injured. Tyson then came out on stage, wrapped his pinky finger with a bandage, and said, “Why are you giving Donnie all this love when my finger accidentally fractured his pinky?”

Despite the injury, both actors continued to work on the scene and finished filming it. The final product was well-received by audiences.

In another interview with South China Post, Yen revealed that he had to be extra cautious while filming with Tyson because he was afraid that ‘Iron Mike’ might go all out and end up hurting him.

Yen admitted that he saw it as a life-and-death boxing match and had to be very careful. “Just a little carelessness, and it could be fatal,” Yen said.

Donnie Yen plays role of Cain in John Wick: Chapter 4 which is out in theaters now.
