Comedian Bryan Callen, a longtime friend of Joe Rogan, revealed he has started testosterone replacement therapy during an appearance on the podcast alongside Dr. Mike Israetel and social media personality Roman Alexander Mory.
Callen first mentioned being on TRT earlier in the conversation, somewhat casually, while discussing his physique and nutrition goals. “Right now I’m on 75, 80 milligrams,” he said. “I shoot 0.2 little CC’s into my little tummy or the fat. I don’t have any fat down there, but I try to find some. I got to pinch it up and give myself a little of that every other day. It’s called micro dosing.”
He also mentioned some side effects along the way. “It makes my armpit smell more. I smell more and I get oily,” he said. “It’s annoying. My underarms smell stronger.”
That drew a wry response from Roman Mori: “That might be your first introduction to what having testosterone in your body feels like for the first time in your life.”
Later in the conversation, Callen circled back to the subject. “You know, we didn’t talk about me being on TRT,” he said, prompting the group to dig in. When asked how he feels, he was enthusiastic.
He said, “I have more energy. I don’t need those naps. I can do two hours of comedy and then I still got stuff in the tank, which was always the case. You get to a certain age, I needed my little nappy poo. And then by at the end of it, I was like, I got to go to bed. But it’s been a shot in the old d**k, too. Not going to lie.”
On libido and function, Callen was candid. “The old wiener was always good but it’s been great,” he said. “I’m back. You understand? It’s different. I’m always ready to go, which is amazing too.”
He also flagged morning erections as a meaningful health indicator: “The morning time, I wake up with a boner.”
Callen shared his testosterone numbers as well, clarifying his levels were not extremely low before starting. “My free was low. My total was 833 high and that’s the lowest it was. It was 972.”
The conversation then moved to diet and its effect on free testosterone. Dr. Israetel noted that a diet heavy in saturated fats like eggs and red meat can raise SHBG, which binds up free testosterone.
Callen acknowledged the connection: “It jacks up my total test binding. I don’t go crazy, but also you get to a certain age where your SHBG or whatever it is, it goes up.”
