During the UFC 330 broadcast in Philadelphia, commentator Joe Rogan let an expletive slip while reflecting on the career of retiring lightweight Edson Barboza.
As Barboza’s emotional farewell match came to a close, Rogan couldn’t contain his admiration for the Brazilian veteran’s storied career. “Edson has been in some wars. Crazy f**king wars,” Rogan remarked during the broadcast.
Realizing he had let an expletive slip, Rogan quickly corrected himself: “Oops! Some wars.”
The comment came after Esteban Ribovics secured a TKO victory over Barboza at 1:32 of the second round, marking the end of an era for one of the sport’s most respected competitors. The match itself was a testament to why Rogan’s assessment rang true, as Barboza sustained significant damage including a split shin that was bleeding heavily by the end of the first round.
Despite the gruesome injury, Barboza chose to continue into the second round, demonstrating the warrior mentality that defined his lengthy UFC tenure. Ribovics, recognizing his opponent’s compromised state, came out aggressively and eventually forced referee Herb Dean to stop the contest.
