In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, host Joe Rogan and former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson had an enlightening discussion about the use of PEDs across various sports.
The conversation began with Rampage recounting his experiences competing in Pride FC, an MMA organization notorious for its lax testing policies. “They all insinuate told me that they had in capital letters ‘WE DO NOT TEST FOR STER*IDS’ in the contract,” Rampage revealed. This set the stage for a broader examination of PED use in combat sports and beyond.
Rogan and Rampage agreed that PED use was rampant in Pride FC, with Rampage noting he competed against several opponents he suspected were enhanced. They contrasted this with the stricter testing protocols in modern UFC, though Rampage expressed skepticism that all stars are truly clean even today.
The discussion then shifted to other sports, with cycling emerging as another domain where PED use has been prevalent. Rogan referenced Lance Armstrong’s scandal, noting that doctors have argued it may actually be healthier for cyclists to use some PEDs given the extreme physical demands of events like the Tour de France.
For sports like baseball and basketball, Rogan and Rampage seemed less concerned about PED use. “I wouldn’t give a f*ck,” Rampage said about ster*id use in baseball. They agreed that in non-contact sports, the health risks and competitive advantages of PEDs are less problematic.
However, both took a harder stance against PED use in full-contact combat sports like MMA and boxing. “I think if you got full contact against another human, I think it should be outlawed,” Rampage stated firmly.
