Joe Rogan found himself in an awkward position after initially defending comedian Whitney Cummings, only to reverse course once he actually understood what the controversy was about.
The situation began when Cummings posted critical comments about Miss Rachel, a popular children’s educator, on social media.
Cummings claimed Miss Rachel “talks to all the kids like they’re m*rons” and suggested the content creator needed to see a mental health professional. The post sparked immediate backlash from parents who appreciate Miss Rachel’s educational content for young children.
Without fully researching the situation, Rogan jumped to Cummings’ defense during his podcast with Bert Kreischer.
Rogan stated, “You know, the Whitney thing about Miss Rachel. I don’t know who Miss Rachel is. She’s an educator for neurodivergent kids. Is that what it is? By the way, the worst people were going after her.”
Rogan attributed the criticism to people envious of Cummings’ success. He continued, “People that I know that are comedians that are just unbelievably s**tty, dishonest, disingenuous human beings, bad faith communicators, people that just like completely distort anything about the person. And it’s just because she’s successful.”
However, the conversation took an unexpected turn when Kreischer suggested they actually watch one of Miss Rachel’s videos. As the two comedians sat watching the educational content, their reaction was quite the opposite from before.
The video showed Miss Rachel counting dinosaur eggs with children in a gentle, educational manner.
After watching, Rogan’s first response was remarkably different from his initial defense. “Pause. Why would you go after this?” he asked. “This is like a little kid show. She must have been bored.”
Kreischer agreed, noting the content was simply for young children and questioning why anyone would criticize it.
Despite this moment of clarity, Rogan quickly pivoted back to defending Cummings, though he acknowledged she had apologized and deleted her posts.
Cummings later posted an apology video explaining her son found Miss Rachel’s presentation overwhelming, though she admitted she should have done more research before posting.
The incident shows a recurring pattern where Rogan defends friends before understanding situations fully, only to backtrack once presented with actual facts.
