Jean Silva explains why he didn’t respect Bryce Mitchell: “He talks about killing dogs, he wears a Jesus T shirt with guns on it”

In the aftermath of their UFC bout, Jean Silva has expressed his lack of respect for Bryce Mitchell, pointing to what he perceives as problematic behavior from his opponent. Silva made it clear that while he respects Mitchell as an athlete, he cannot extend that same respect to Mitchell’s personal conduct.

“He’s saying crazy things, he talks about killing dogs, he wears a Jesus T-shirt with guns on it,” Silva stated, highlighting his concerns about Mitchell’s public persona and the messages he conveys to his audience.

Silva emphasized that Mitchell has achieved a significant platform in the sport, with considerable influence over his followers, potentially including young fans. “He’s in a place where what he says matters,” Silva noted, suggesting that Mitchell should be more mindful of his responsibility as a public figure.

The Brazilian star’s comments have sparked a mixed reaction among MMA fans. Some have rallied behind Silva, praising his stance and apparent concern for impressionable young followers of the sport. Others have defended Mitchell, suggesting Silva may have misunderstood certain contexts, with some pointing out that Mitchell’s references to “dogs” might actually have been about coyotes.

Despite the heated exchanges leading up to their fight, Silva maintained that he approached the contest focusing on Mitchell as a competitor rather than letting personal feelings interfere. “I respect him as an athlete, I’ll show that tonight,” Silva declared before their matchup.

Silva also expressed concern about Mitchell’s wellbeing, suggesting that his opponent might be dealing with personal issues that manifest in his public statements. “He has to heal, he has mental problems,” Silva remarked, indicating that he believes Mitchell’s controversial statements might stem from deeper issues.

Mitchell took to social media to address his loss and the disappointing result that he clearly didn’t see coming.

“I want to thank everybody for their support and let ya’ll know I’m doing just fine,” Mitchell said on Instagram. “Thank God, he protected me. I didn’t lose my teeth. I don’t got no broken bones. So I feel good about that. I fought as hard as I possibly could. I couldn’t have fought any harder. I could have fought smarter.

“I’m going to go make some adjustments but I mean he put me to sleep. I had nothing left to give. I’m happy about that, knowing that I tried my best. But I’ve got to get better. That’s just the lesson learned here, I’ve got to get better.”
