In a development that has the combat sports world buzzing, YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul has confirmed that preliminary discussions are underway for a potential MMA bout against heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk.
During a recent interview, Paul revealed his interest in testing his skills in mixed martial arts, saying, “Test my skills in the cage, and that’s something I’m super, super interested in. And I think it would be a very, very big spectacle.”
The potential matchup appears to be more than just speculation, as Paul disclosed that Usyk’s team has reached out behind the scenes. “Boosick has called out Jake multiple times in MMA. They’ve been in touch with us behind the scenes saying they want to do that fight in 2026, so it’s something that we definitely want to pursue,” Paul stated.
This crossover contest would pit the 27-year-old influencer against one of boxing’s most accomplished current champions. Usyk, 37, holds an undefeated professional boxing record and currently reigns as the unified WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO, and Ring magazine heavyweight champion.
While Paul has established himself as a legitimate draw in boxing with victories over former MMA stars including Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz, he acknowledges that entering the cage would present an entirely new challenge. “I haven’t started any MMA training, so it would definitely be interesting,” Paul admitted.
The proposed timeline for this unprecedented matchup appears to be 2026, giving both athletes ample time to prepare. Paul’s partner (PFL) promotion is reportedly examining the possibility. When asked if the PFL is exploring the matchup, Paul confirmed: “Absolutely.”
Paul also mentioned that former UFC star Nate Diaz has been reluctant to face him again, stating, “Nate Diaz is still ducking.”
