In a surprising revelation that highlights the determination of those supporting UFC Welterweight Champion Jack Della Maddalena (JDM), renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Craig Jones shared an extraordinary story about JDM’s brother Josh and his unconventional journey to witness the championship bout at UFC 315 in Montreal.
According to Jones, Josh Della Maddalena faced unexpected visa issues that prevented him from entering Canada through normal channels.
“Jack’s brother Josh couldn’t get a Canadian visa, so he flew into the US and crossed on foot,” Jones explained in a video, detailing the lengths to which the supportive sibling went to witness his brother’s historic moment.
The revelation adds another layer to Jack Della Maddalena’s remarkable championship victory over Belal Muhammad, which came via unanimous decision with judges scoring the bout 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 in favor of the Australian fighter.
JDM’s performance against Muhammad was nothing short of impressive, showcasing precise striking and excellent takedown defense throughout the five-round contest. The new champion controlled distance masterfully against his opponent, demonstrating no signs of ring rust despite being out of action for over a year prior to UFC 315.
Following his victory, Della Maddalena has already set his sights on potential future challenges, including a possible champion versus champion showdown with lightweight king Islam Makhachev.
“I think it’s a beautiful challenge,” Della Maddalena said when asked about facing Makhachev, who has reportedly been promised a title shot at 170 pounds should he win his next bout. “You know his pants about number one.”
The Australian champion also referenced his compatriot Alexander Volkanovski, who has twice fallen short against Makhachev. “I’m gonna get him back for Volk,” JDM declared, suggesting a personal element to the potential superfight.
While the new welterweight champion contemplates his next move, the story of his brother’s determination to be present for the career-defining moment serves as a testament to the support system behind JDM’s rise to UFC championship status.
