Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski made a ‘shoey’ bet for UFC 276

Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski made an interesting ‘shoey’ bet for the upcoming UFC 276. The pair agreed that whoever loses the bet should drink from the winner’s shoe.

UFC 276 is right around the corner. The event will be held this weekend on July 3. The event is stacked with several interesting matchups in both main and prelims.

Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is set to headline the event against title challenger Jared Cannonier. ‘The Last Stylebender’ will be looking to have his fifth successful title defense.

The co-main event will be a featherweight title bout between Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski and Max Holloway. This will be their trilogy fight and Holloway will try to snatch back his belt that he lost in 2019.

Recently, Adesanya and Volkanovski discussed and predicted the fights for the upcoming event on his youtube channel FREESTYLEBENDER. During their discussion, they made an interesting bet for a match up between UFC veteran Robbie Lawler and Bryan Barberena.

Israel Adesanya favored Barberena while the featherweight champion is certain that Lawler will earn the victory. They eventually agreed to bet and whoever loses will have to do a ‘shoey’ and drink from the winner’s shoe.

“This guy, Bryan Barberena, I didn’t really know who he was until he fought his last fight. I’m gonna go Barberena because in the last fight he showed me something I’ve never seen before. I never knew who he was and he showed himself.” Adesanya said.

“Robbie is going to be pretty much the same.” Volkanovski said.

Robbie Lawler has been competing in the UFC since 2013. ‘Ruthless’ won UFC welterweight championship in 2014 and defended it two times before Tyron Woodley defeated him in 2016. From 2017, Lawler suffered 4 consecutive losses that kicked him out from the top 15 contender. His most recent bout was a rematch against fellow veteran Nick Diaz in September of last year.

Meanwhile, Bryan Barberenda is on his second win streak. The 33-year-old defeated UFC veteran Matt Brown back in March at UFC on ESPN 33. The pair clashed in a fierce fight that was awarded Fight of The Night.
