Social media influencer and poker player Dan Bilzerian has filed a lawsuit against his company Ignite, his father Paul Bilzerian, and several others in a dramatic family dispute that has spilled into the courts.
Dan Bilzerian, who claims to be the founder and majority shareholder of Ignite, alleges he was unlawfully pushed out of the company through a series of illegal actions. The lawsuit notably acknowledges his father Paul’s criminal history, including a 1989 conviction for securities fraud.
Founded in 2017, Ignite is a lifestyle brand selling vapes, spirits, and apparel. While Dan served as the nominal CEO for six years, he admits he wasn’t directly involved in operations until December 2023. The dispute escalated when Dan was threatened with termination by his father Paul and Scott Rollet, another defendant in the case.
On December 18, 2023, Dan warned the board of directors that firing him would result in losing the benefits of his social media presence and rights to his name, image, and likeness. Despite this warning, the board, controlled by his father, terminated Dan as CEO on December 21st. The situation further deteriorated in June 2024 when Paul allegedly removed Dan from his position as chairman of the board without the required 67% shareholder vote.
According to legal documents, while Dan Bilzerian founded Ignite in 2017 and served as its CEO for six years, his role was merely “nominal” – meaning in name only. Despite being the company’s founder and majority shareholder, Bilzerian admits he was not directly involved in Ignite’s day-to-day operations until December 2023.
The lawsuit reveals a complex power struggle within the company, with Dan claiming his father Paul Bilzerian, a convicted former corporate raider, was secretly controlling operations through various agents against Dan’s interests. The situation came to a head when Dan was threatened with termination from his CEO position by his father and another defendant, Scott Rolet.
The lawsuit centers around Ignite’s continued use of Dan’s name, image, and likeness without permission. Interestingly, Dan continues to feature Ignite branding on his Instagram account, which has garnered millions of views.
Recent developments have added complexity to the case, as Paul Bilzerian and others were recently indicted by the United States government and sued by the SEC. Dan claims these legal troubles have negatively impacted his reputation due to his association with Ignite.
Financial records reveal additional family tensions, with Dan’s company Blitz NV filing for bankruptcy last year, listing International Investments of St. Kitts – where his father resides – as its largest creditor with a $3.9 million loan. Dan also recently took out a $5 million mortgage on his Las Vegas home, suggesting possible financial difficulties.
The legal battle highlights a deteriorating relationship between father and son, with both parties now seeking resolution through the courts.
In a recent lawsuit that has exposed deep family rifts, social media influencer Dan Bilzerian has filed legal action against his father Paul Bilzerian and others regarding the operations of lifestyle brand Ignite, revealing surprising details about his role in the company he founded.
The legal battle continues to unfold, with Dan alleging his father and associates have engaged in a smear campaign against him, telling potential business partners that he is legally prevented from competing with Ignite’s business.”
