In a humorous encounter that quickly went viral on social media, an influencer met UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones but seemingly couldn’t remember his name correctly throughout their interaction.
The woman, who introduced herself as Sally, repeatedly referred to the MMA superstar as “Josh Jones” and even “Jon Johnson” during their brief meeting, apparently unaware she was speaking to one of the most recognizable fighters in combat sports history.
In footage of the encounter, Sally can be heard saying, “His name’s Josh Jones,” before later questioning herself with, “What’s his name again?” After taking a photo with the UFC champion, she confidently but incorrectly declared, “I just shook John Cena’s hand.”
The confusion continued as Sally shared her impression of the fighter, saying, “Josh Jones is giving people warm hugs. He looks just like a teddy bear.”
Jones, known for his accomplishments in the octagon, appeared to take the case of mistaken identity in good humor, with the video showing him smiling as the woman continued mixing up his name.
“He looks like a lover boy. Like a lover, not a fighter,” Sally added, seemingly unaware of Jones’ reputation as one of the most dominant champions in UFC history. “He’s like giving everybody hugs. Grabbing their shoulders and giving a nice fuzzy smile towards them.”
The clip has since garnered significant attention online, with fans amused by the stark contrast between Jones’ fearsome reputation in competition and being mistaken for “Josh” by a clueless fan.
Neither Jones nor his representatives have commented on the humorous mix-up that has left social media users entertained by the champion’s patient reaction to repeatedly being called by the wrong name.
