Henry Cejudo has been raising waves for the last 6 months about making a UFC comeback. The pint sized two division champion might not be in Dana White’s graces for a while – considering he retired while holding two titles.
The divisions went on to recover, and deliver some of must see fights of 2021, Ortega vs Volkanovski being one. Previously there were reports Cejudo had been mistreated by UFC and was making just a fraction of what other champions were making.
“When I told Khabib how much I’m getting paid, how much I’m asking for, he was so dumbfounded. He’s like, ‘Really?’ He was like, ‘Really?’ He’s like, ‘Man, that’s not right. I understand you.’ It’s just that people are on different contracts, man. You know, Khabib’s making $10 million a fight, and we’re nowhere near that.”
Still – for Cejudo the first step toward a comeback came with his re-entry into the USADA pool. Now it’s widely speculated Cejudo would be fighting Max Holloway for his comeback. Prior to this fight Holloway was scheduled to meet Volkanovski in a rematch – however the hopes for a rematch were dashed quickly considering Holloway revealed an injury. He was replaced by Korean Zombie.
Cejudo is taking things one step further – and challenging Holloway in an interview with The Underground:
“One of the fights that come to mind if I come back is Max Holloway. If you won’t give me Alexander the average, give me Holloway. Okay, if they want me to fight somebody to get into that title fight, give me Holloway. I know I can beat him, and then I’ll get Alexander the average. I’m curious to see what Holloway would say about the fight, I respect him, but I also know he’s really beatable. But, I know he’s really dangerous too, that’s why I like him.”
Cejudo continued, “I do believe Max Holloway would take me seriously, and he’d be more willing to fight me than Alexander Volkanovski would. That’s the route I would wanna go… Give me a Holloway, or a Volkanovski.”
