Former boxing world champion Carl Froch has unleashed a blistering criticism of UFC star Conor McGregor following a recent incident at a shopping center that has gone viral on social media.
The controversy arose when McGregor was captured on video responding to a fan who shouted support for his rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, who defeated the Irishman in their 2018 UFC title clash. In the footage, after hearing “Let’s go Khabib!” McGregor apparently spits before walking away and saying: “I spit in your face, what do you do? Nothing.”
Froch, the 47-year-old former super middleweight champion, took to X to express his disgust at McGregor’s behavior. “For McGregor to go over to this guy and spit in his face… what are you doing?! Why are you spitting in a grown man’s face? And not only did you spit in his face, he then bragged about it… I mean, what can the guy do about it? He has a go at McGregor and gets taken down or battered, but then again McGregor is going straight to jail.”
The incident adds to a growing list of controversies surrounding the former dual-weight UFC champion. McGregor lost a civil rape case in November 2024 and faces allegations of sexual battery from an incident at an NBA finals game in Miami in 2023.
“Why is McGregor putting himself in these stupid positions? He’s already been in enough trouble now, you’d think he’d want to keep a low profile and keep his head down,” Froch continued in his statement.
The British boxing legend concluded his criticism with strong words: “Somebody shouts ‘Khabib,’ he’s allowed to shout Khabib… he’s a Khabib fan! Don’t go over and spit in a man’s face, it’s just vile, it’s wrong, it’s classless, and if it was me, you would’ve got a swift right hand straight down the pipe on that stupid chin of yours. It’s just out of order, it’s vulgar, and you need to grow up.”
McGregor, 36, holds a professional MMA record of 22 wins and 6 losses across his 28-fight career, with 19 victories coming by knockout.
