A brief, seemingly routine greeting at a high-profile sporting event turned into a full-blown social media controversy for Food Network star Guy Fieri this week.
Video footage captured the celebrity chef warmly embracing “manosphere” influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate at UFC 327 at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
Days after the event, backlash had grown loud enough that Fieri took to X to address it directly. “I’m seeing all of your comments about the photo from Saturday’s UFC event and all I can say is that I’m devastated,” he wrote. “I was there to see the matches and when I was walking through the venue, the Tate brothers stood up and said hello and that’s when the exchange happened. I did not know them or about them before that moment.”

He continued: “I’ll never pretend to be a perfect person but let me be crystal clear, I do not know the Tate brothers nor do I support them in any way.”
The public’s unease over the encounter stems directly from the Tate brothers’ deeply controversial public profiles. Andrew and Tristan Tate, both former kickboxers holding dual U.S.-British citizenship, are under investigation across multiple countries.
According to sources, both brothers face charges of r*pe and human trafficking in the United Kingdom. More recently, a court in Romania lifted what were described as “all preventative judicial control measures” against Tristan, though a investigation into accusations of human trafficking remains ongoing. Both brothers have denied all wrongdoing.
Andrew Tate, who has openly described himself as a misogynist, built a massive online following by promoting what he frames as an ultra-masculine lifestyle.
For Fieri, whose larger-than-life persona is largely built on warmth, food, and community, the association raised serious concerns among fans and observers who felt the moment deserved more than a dismissal as an accidental photo opportunity.
The Food Network mainstay has been a fixture on the channel since 2006, hosting beloved programs including “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and “Guy’s Grocery Games,” while also appearing as a guest judge on “Food Network Star.”
