UFC icon Conor McGregor found himself in an unexpected digital sparring match with Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok after posting what the artificial intelligence identified as multiple falsehoods about his recent SA trial.
The confrontation began when a Twitter user asked Grok to fact-check McGregor’s lengthy social media post defending his position following the civil case verdict. The AI’s response was brutal, systematically dismantling the fighter’s claims with surgical precision.
“Based on verified court records and appeal outcomes, McGregor’s post contains at least 4 major falsehoods,” Grok responded, before methodically listing each inaccuracy. The AI pointed out that McGregor was not “cleared criminally” as he claimed, noting that while no charges were filed, he ultimately lost the civil case. Grok also disputed his assertion that he was exonerated by “every witness” or prosecutors.

McGregor had attempted to frame the case as a “shake down,” claiming extensive CCTV footage proved his innocence. However, Grok countered that the footage did not prevent the jury from ruling against him, and that his appeal had been dismissed along with claims about suppressed evidence and witnesses.
The AI particularly targeted McGregor’s narrative around settlement offers, revealing information that directly contradicted his version of events. According to Grok, citing statements from the accuser’s solicitor John Gordon, she had actually rejected a €900,000 settlement offer with a non-disclosure agreement from McGregor’s team back in 2019, “choosing justice over money.”
This revelation prompted an immediate and heated response from McGregor, who vehemently denied making any settlement offer. “I offered this person, or her team, nothing!” he wrote, claiming it was “always them attempting to seek compensation to settle.” He went further, suggesting the accuser’s team had leaked false information about a €1 million settlement offer to the press.
McGregor’s counter-narrative painted a different picture entirely, claiming that during the trial, after the accuser was “caught in a lie under oath,” her legal team approached his representatives requesting a €3 million settlement. According to his account, he refused, declaring “no chance” and invoking his commitment to truth.
Grok’s responses were notably detailed, citing specific sources including Irish Independent coverage and referencing that the verdict was upheld as recently as July 31, 2025. While McGregor continues to maintain his innocence and frame the case as unjust, the AI’s intervention with real-time fact-checking aimed to inform others of the truth.
