UFC president Dana White said he will give Gilbert Burns a win bonus despite Burns suffering a loss against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273.
Khamzat Chimaev kept his win streak going when he beat the number 2 welterweight contender Gilbert Burns. The two clashed fiercely for 3 rounds and Chimaev was announced as the winner via unanimous decision. They also received Fight of The Night Bonus for going all out inside the octagon.
Gilbert Burns may have lost, but the 35-year-old Brazilian will still receive a win bonus. This is because Burns put on a spectacular fight that exceeded people’s expectations, including Dana White. During the event’s post-fight press conference, White gave his thoughts on the clash.
“It’s one of the best fights I’ve ever seen. You know what else too, I think I am going to give Gilbert Burns his win money too. He is going to get a show and win, that fight was ridiculous. It’s one of the coolest fights I’ve ever been to.” White said.
Dana White also couldn’t stop praising Khamzat Chimaev for his spectacular performance. The rising star is only two years competing within the promotion and already beat the number 2 contender.
“Think about this: When was the last time you saw a guy come out of nowhere. Nobody knows who he is, comes out of nowhere. Then [he] fights the No 2-ranked guy in the world and wins.” White said.
“When you get into the top-5 in the UFC, it’s no joke man, and especially in that [welterweight] division. That division is straight killers. Tonight was a big test for him and he passed. You can’t train in the gym for what happened tonight, I’m sure this week he had a lot of pressure on him, a lot of anxiety. Who knows how well he slept last night?” White said.
Dana White also slammed some fans who think Chimaev is not as good as he claimed to be. However, White believes there are some external factors that rendered his skill.
“He’s human, any a****** [that doubted him] doesn’t think the kid’s human. He’s a human being, and he just beat the No 2 welterweight in the world in the UFC, with a couple of fights in the UFC. If you don’t think he’s the real deal, you’re out of your mind.”
Khamzat Chimaev suffered heavy blows for the first time in the UFC. In his 4 previous fights, ‘Borz’ defeated his opponents easily without suffering many significant strikes. With this victory, Chimaev remained undefeated with a total score of 11-0. The welterweight title gatekeeper Colby Covingotn will be the next to challenge Chimaev
