German MMA prospect says he was cautioned to leave town after pulling an Adesanya on submitted opponent

German prospect Max Holzer’s victory celebration at OKTAGON 69 sparked a dramatic sequence of events that extended far beyond the cage.

The undefeated Holzer (now 11-0) defeated former professional boxer Deniz Ilbay (now 8-2) via submission in the fourth round of their featherweight contest. However, what should have been a moment of athletic triumph quickly descended into controversy due to Holzer’s post-victory actions.

According to multiple witnesses and video evidence, Holzer performed inappropriate gestures toward his fallen opponent, including what one observer described as “the Izzy-Costa treatment” – referring to a controversial celebration by UFC champion Israel Adesanya after his victory over Paulo Costa. Reports indicate these unsportsmanlike displays included kissing and making suggestive movements toward Ilbay while he was still recovering.

In a recent statement, Holzer addressed the aftermath: “I have to say after the fight, even when he tried to punch me, it was all good. I wanted to shake his hand, and I apologized at the press conference, but he did not accept it.”

The situation escalated dramatically outside the cage. “The crazy thing was that they had to bring me out of the arena with many security guys,” Holzer revealed. “They said to me, ‘You have to leave your hotel, you have to leave the city, they will try to attack you.'”

Holzer expressed uncertainty about the severity of the threat but confirmed the extreme security measures: “I don’t know if that is the truth, but the security told me… they brought me out with like ten securities out of the cage and out of the arena.”

While acknowledging his actions, Holzer also pointed to concerning behavior from his opponent’s camp: “I know what I did was very disrespectful, but I could not think about my team knocking out a fan. His father was in his corner and was knocking out a fan… a guy who’s making us able to do our job. The fans have to be always safe in my opinion, and yeah, that behavior cannot be accepted.”

Social media reactions to the incident have been divided. One user called it the “funniest thing ever seen inside the cage,” while others deemed Ilbay’s reaction “100% deserved” and a “reasonable crash out.” Some fans called for serious consequences, with one demanding officials “ban him for life, no excuse and no tolerance for that behavior.”

As of now, OKTAGON management has not announced any disciplinary measures following this controversial conclusion to their headline event, leaving many questions about appropriate boundaries in post-victory celebrations and sportsmanship in mixed martial arts.
