UFC superstar Conor McGregor found himself on the receiving end of a sharp retort from Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham over comments related to the Freedom Flotilla crisis.
The incident began when Cunningham, known for his role as the seasoned sailor Davos Seaworth in the hit HBO series, publicly condemned the recent interception of the humanitarian ship Madleen by Israeli forces in international waters. The vessel, carrying 12 people including activists and a journalist, was reportedly seized while attempting to deliver essential supplies to Gaza.
McGregor responded to Cunningham’s post with what appeared to be mockery, writing: “I thought you were on this boat Liamo, what happened? You forgot your goggles? You got seasick? Bottler!”
The Irish actor didn’t hesitate to fire back with a reference that struck close to home for the MMA fighter: “Didn’t know you could read and write Conor. Thought you used your hands to just tap out.”

The pointed comeback referenced McGregor’s professional career losses by submission, including high-profile bouts against rivals Nate Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Shortly after Cunningham’s response gained traction online, McGregor’s original post disappeared from his account.
This exchange unfolded against the backdrop of serious humanitarian concerns. The Madleen was reportedly carrying critical supplies including baby formula, water kits, medical supplies and food as part of an operation to deliver relief to Gaza’s population amid the ongoing blockade.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion Craig Jones recently commented on the unique position McGregor holds in combat sports. Speaking on the B-Team YouTube channel, Jones explained why few fighters can achieve McGregor’s level of fame and success.
“The sad realization is everyone thinks they’re gonna be Conor McGregor, they’re going to make Conor McGregor money, they’re gonna get Conor McGregor stardom. But, there’s only one Conor McGregor,” Jones stated. “The stars of the UFC, it’s tough out there. MMA as a whole is not a very high-paying sport.”
