UFC star Sean O’Malley took to Twitch for a live stream shortly after undergoing surgery for a torn labrum. The injury had plagued O’Malley in the lead-up to his recent bout against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306, where he ultimately lost by unanimous decision.
During the stream, O’Malley appeared visibly affected by post-operative treatment, creating a surreal atmosphere for his viewers. In a moment of spontaneity, he decided to call fellow streamer Adin Ross, challenging him to an impromptu freestyle session about his recent defeat.
“First off I wanna say, I didn’t take any pain pills — I didn’t even go to sleep,” O’Malley claimed during the stream, his words slightly slurred. “They did the surgery, I was wide awake. It hurt a little bit, I’m not gonna lie. Whoa dude I feel like I’m peaking. Alright, Twitch fam … we’re here, we’re there, we’re everywhere.”
Ross went on to deliver some funny lines:
“Yeah, he beat Merab — He made him tap. That’s how it should have gone. He had his a*s bent. Sean won three rounds. He beat him around town. He’s the champ.”
The unexpected collaboration between O’Malley and Ross quickly went viral, with fans and fellow fighters alike sharing clips of the unusual freestyle across social media platforms.
While O’Malley recovers from his surgery, the bantamweight division moves forward. Merab Dvalishvili, fresh off his victory over O’Malley, is expected to defend his newly acquired title against undefeated prospect Umar Nurmagomedov. The Dagestani fighter, boasting an impressive 18-0 record, secured his title shot with a decisive win over Cory Sandhagen in Abu Dhabi this past August.
As for O’Malley, his road to recovery is expected to keep him out of action for at least 6-8 months. However, given his popularity and previous championship status, it’s likely he’ll find himself back in title contention upon his return to the Octagon.
