According to Frank Warren, he has emails that show that neither he nor Tyson Fury were at fault for Fury’s bout with Oleksandr Usyk falling apart.
Boxing fans have recently been devastated by the collapse of the world heavyweight unification bout between Fury and Usyk. The cancellation of the April 29th bout at Wembley was attributed to a rematch clause and the split in revenue money by the parties concerned.
Laura Woods talked about the dissatisfaction of the fans on talkSport, asserting that they deserved more from the sport. She also said that it was a PR disaster for the industry.
Now Queensbury Promotions director Frank Warren claims he has email evidence.
Fury’s promoter talked to iFL TV while reading the letter from Usyk’s promoter. He said: “This is a cop-out. Listen to this, ‘I’m not even blaming him [Fury].'”
Warren starts reading the letter: “‘Because it is what it is. He ain’t blaming him, that’s not my words. Team Usyk is out of negotiations for the April 29th”
The Queensbury manager stated the following about Usyk: “What does Usyk deliver in America? Nothing. Nothing!”
“Now I’ve read you what they said on Monday, and it didn’t change yesterday, we didn’t even get to a discussion about it. He [Usyk] had gone back to Kiev.
“…We’re not to blame, Queensbury are not to blame, and Tyson’s not to blame. It is what it is, not my words.”
Even if it seems that Fury isn’t strictly to blame for the failure of the negotiations, the “it is what it is” statement doesn’t exactly imply that Usky is either.
