Former UFC champion Michael Bisping didn’t mince words when analyzing Michael Chandler‘s devastating loss to rising star Paddy Pimblett at UFC 314, describing the one-sided defeat as a “career-killing performance” for the 38-year-old veteran.
In his livestream analysis, Bisping expressed surprise at how thoroughly Pimblett dominated Chandler in what many considered the toughest test of the Liverpool star’s UFC career to date.
“He absolutely smoked Michael Chandler. He made it look easy,” Bisping said of Pimblett’s performance.
While Chandler had some early success with a takedown in the first round, Bisping noted that the tide quickly turned against him.
“After the first round it was done. It was over. Michael Chandler was absolutely exhausted and Patty the Baddy just got better and better.”
According to Bisping‘s breakdown, Pimblett grew in confidence as the fight progressed, landing combinations at will, opening a cut with a flying knee, and dominating Chandler on the ground.
“It was a mauling,” Bisping stated, describing how Chandler was “squirmed up on the floor covered in blood” while Pimblett methodically attacked from dominant positions.
The former middleweight champion believes this loss effectively ends Chandler‘s championship aspirations.
“I don’t say this lightly but that was a career-killing performance for Michael Chandler,” Bisping said. “Yes, of course he’ll fight again. Yes, he’ll still make money. Yes, people will want to tune in, but that’s it. There ain’t no more title talks. There’s no more ‘see you at the top.’ There’s none of that.”
Bisping pointed to Chandler‘s age as a significant factor in his assessment:
“If he was 30 years old, he could have another go. He could dust himself off, have another crack at the whip. But no… he’s 38 years old and there ain’t no way that he’s getting back into title contention ever again.”
Meanwhile, Bisping praised Pimblett for backing up his confidence with an impressive performance, noting that the brash lightweight called out several top contenders in his post-fight interview.
“The man is coming to be a champion,” Bisping concluded, adding that “after tonight’s performance, everybody’s got to start taking him a lot more seriously.”
