Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez denied bail a second time

Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez is in a problematic legal situation. The former mma fighter is indicted after an incident during which he allegedly ranĀ  a vehicle off the road and wounded one person.

Santa Clara County Superior Court Sheylna Brown said that the “court is not ruled by community opinion at allā€¦.It is ruled by the law,”Ā a USA Today reporter wrote.Ā

Brown added that Velasquez’s behavior showed “reckless, disregard for human life,”.

Velasquez is facing 10 charged that could result in 20 years in prison. The situation is quite dire.

He was denied bail in March and remains in custody at the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

Velasquez is being represented by high-profile attorney Mark Geragos, who had previously been hopeful about Velasquez getting released on bail.

Velasquez received universal support from the MMA community with a number of prominent members submitting letters attesting to his character.

Velasquez is sitting in jail while the man he was chasing – one 43-year-old Harry Goularte, accused of molesting an underaged relative on over a 100 occasions.

Attorney for the wounded stepfather of Goularte added:
“The family is fearful of Cain Velasquez being released,” Steinfeld said.

ā€œCain Velasquez, who is now faced with the worst possible situation, he carried me to heights I never thought,ā€ Daniel Cormier said.
ā€œIn all my biggest moments, he was right next to me. Now as he is on this journey and this fight that heā€™s in, I try to support him as best I can. Every time you see him go to court or something, I will be there because he was always there for me.ā€
