Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar isn’t backing down from critics who focus on his height, delivering a blunt message during a recent podcast appearance that showcased his trademark intensity outside the octagon.
During Episode 273 of his podcast, which he co-hosts alongside Jersey Shore personality Roger, Edgar addressed those who make comments about his stature with characteristic directness.
“When the only people are like, oh, you’re short, or I got more money than you, or I’m better looking than you, or this. I’m like, well, what can I do if I want to? Kick your ass. And f*** you,” Edgar stated during the show.
The conversation emerged while discussing Edgar’s recent participation in a military honor event, where he appeared alongside notable combat sports figures including Gordon Ryan, Luke Rockhold, and “Karate Hottie” Michelle Waterson. Observers noted that Edgar, visibly shorter than some of his fellow attendees, was seen carrying equipment during the proceedings.
Edgar’s podcast co-host seemed to acknowledge the former champion’s point, responding with agreement about Edgar’s capabilities despite any height disadvantage.
The 42-year-old Edgar, who stands 5’6″, has long been considered one of the most accomplished stars in UFC history despite competing in divisions where he was often at a significant height and reach disadvantage. Throughout his career, he consistently proved that physical dimensions don’t determine outcomes in competition.
The military honor event Edgar referenced was part of Saturday’s military parade in Washington celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. The event drew various sponsors and supporters from the combat sports world, with UFC involvement through personal participation rather than corporate sponsorship.
Edgar’s comments reflect his ongoing frustration with those who reduce his accomplishments to physical attributes, particularly given his successful career competing against larger opponents throughout his time in professional mixed martial arts.
