Donald Cerrone comes down with illness – Lauzon bout is Off

UFC 274 started with a snag. The much anticipated clash between veterands Donald Cowboy Cerrone and Joe Lauzon is off. During the early prelims Jon Anik madeĀ  the following announcement.

Cerrone is out of Joe Lauzon fight due to non Covid 19 related illness, Jon Anik explained.

ā€œThey think what might have happened is Donald [Cerrone] ate something bad,ā€ Joe Rogan said on the broadcast. ā€œBecause he was throwing up, he couldnā€™t keep food down. He felt terrible.”

Cerrone had an emotional week wanting his son to be able to see him in the cage once again.

Many of the cards in the last two years took place at the UFC apex without an audience. UFC 274 is taking place at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, United States.

It’s rather interesting the team opted to reveal only that it’s a on covid 19 related illness – especially in light of the promotion abandoning Covid 19 protocols

Ariel Helwani confirmed:

Confirmed with Donald Cerroneā€™s team that he suffered from food poisoning this am. They are talking about rescheduling but no word yet.”

During the UFC 274 media day, Cerrone discussed how this bout was moved to UFC 274

ā€œWhen they offered me the name, I called Joe and said, letā€™s do it. Then they put us on April 30 and I called Joe and told him that was not going to work,ā€ Cerrone said. ā€œThis is not an APEX fight, and Joe was like, what are you going to do? I told him Iā€™m going to call Dana and you have my back.ā€
