Derek Brunson already raised $10k For Cain Velasquez legal defense fund

More and more MMA fighters show their support for Cain Velasquez. Velasquez is looking at 20 years to life if found convicted on charges related to shooting that happened this past Monday in San Jose.

Velasquez reportedly chased and shot at a vehicle containing Goularte – Goularte is accused of having abused a 4 year old relative of Velasquez’ over 100 times. The man wounded during the incident is Goularte’s stepfather.

All of MMA community is united in belief Velasquez did the right thing by seeking vengance. Previously, many renowned MMA fighters have shown their support throughout social media, including as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Ronda Rousey, Ben Askren, and even Dana White.

From the get go, Derek Brunson sided with Velasquez and tried to help. He launched a T shirt campaign containing the slogan Free Cain – with all of the profits from the T shirt sales going to Cain’s legal defense fund.

The t-shirt has been available to purchase for $27.99. Brunson already managed to raise $10,000 for the Velasquez’s family.

The 38-year-old posted a picture of him and his son holding a $10,000 check. He said that he understands what Velasquez felt.

“As a father I feel you Cain. The MMA community got your back! 10k in 2 1/2 days sent to his wife!” Brunson wrote.

 

In a criminal complaint acquired by MMA Junkie through the Santa Clara County Superior Court, Velasquez has been charged with attempted murder (one count), shooting at a motor vehicle or aircraft (one count), assault with a firearm (three counts), assault with a deadly weapon (three counts), willfully discharging a firearm from a vehicle (one count), and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony (one count). Video of the chase was also released earlier this week.
