Daniel Cormier has raised concerns about Bo Nickal’s readiness for elite competition following his recent defeat to Reinier de Ridder.
Speaking on an ESPN MMA segment, the former two-division UFC champion didn’t hold back when assessing Nickal’s performance.
“Do you think subconsciously Bo Nickal was doing the weak thing because he was very concerned about Reinier de Ridder’s size?” Cormier questioned. “Because RDR’s a big dude, that’s when they walked out there, RDR was big. He was just walking him down and honestly chill.”
Cormier’s assessment grew more pointed as he continued his analysis of the matchup, suggesting that Nickal appeared outmatched against the more experienced De Ridder.
“He made Bo look like a guy that isn’t that good and not ready for the highest level of competition,” said Cormier, casting doubt on Nickal’s preparedness for top-tier opponents.
The comments come as a significant blow to Nickal’s reputation, as the former collegiate wrestling standout had been widely regarded as one of the most promising prospects in MMA before this setback.
The loss to De Ridder marks a crucial moment in Nickal’s career trajectory, potentially forcing a reassessment of his development timeline as he looks to rebound from this disappointing showing.
