‘Daredevil’ actor Charlie Cox happy to train MMA

Charlie Cox is preparing for his comeback as “Daredevil” by training “exactly” like an MMA veteran.

British actor has been performing choreographed action sequences for years, and the stunning hallway sequences in Netflix’s “Daredevil” have wowed spectators. Cox has made a return as the blind superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, years after the popular TV show was cancelled.

But before the shooting of “Daredevil: Born Again” begins, Cox is stepping up his fitness program. At Team KF Martial Arts in Swords, Ireland, the 39-year-old has been learning MMA under the instruction of coach Chris Fields.

Cox recently said to The Hollywood Reporter,

“I’m finishing up a project at the moment in Dublin, and I’ve been working with an amazing MMA trainer [Chris Fields] over here. So I’ve started to do some training with him to get ready for next year. So it’s been really fun to do that again and take it to a new level.”

Fields, a veteran of 21 bouts, had only positive things to say about Cox’s efforts in the gym. In every training session, Fields was ‘blown away’ by the Daredevil actor’s abilities.

Fields commented on Wednesday,

“It has been great working with Charlie over the last while, helping him prepare for his next role. I was a little hesitant when I was first asked, as my expertise is being a coach to fighters. But after meeting Charlie, I quickly realized he wanted to train exactly like a fighter.”

“He returned to the gym after each tough session I put him through and I was blown away by his work ethic and willingness to learn – the same characteristics needed to be an elite fighter.”

“He fit in straight away with the team and his improvement from day one to now has been insane to see. I’m really excited to see some of this come through on the show. Videos of what myself and Charlie have been working on, dropping shortly.”

Although Cox may not be as skilled a boxer as Daredevil, he is certainly giving it his all.
