UFC CEO Dana White recently shared insights on how he influenced Donald Trump’s media strategy during the 2024 presidential campaign. White revealed the role he played in steering the former president away from traditional television appearances toward the podcast circuit.
During his appearance on the Impaulsive podcast, White detailed a crucial conversation he had with Trump about campaign strategy. “At one point I said to him, if you keep doing Fox and only Fox, you’re never going to win this election,” White explained.
His reasoning was straightforward: “Every other network out there says you’re the devil and a N*zi and a horrible human being, and everybody on Fox is already voting for you.”
White recognized the untapped potential of podcast audiences, particularly younger demographics that weren’t being reached through traditional media channels. “There’s this podcast thing. It’s big, these young kids and a lot of these young kids are supporters of yours,” he told Trump.
The UFC CEO’s media instincts proved prescient. White had successfully facilitated connections between Trump and popular podcast hosts, including bringing the Nelk Boys onto Air Force One and orchestrating various podcast appearances.
White’s advice extended beyond just platform selection. He understood that podcast audiences craved authentic, unscripted conversations rather than the polished, talking-point-heavy interviews typical of cable news. The long-form format allowed for deeper engagement and showcased personality in ways that traditional media couldn’t match.
Trump’s eventual embrace of the podcast circuit, including high-profile appearances on shows like Joe Rogan’s podcast, was due to White’s strategic thinking. According to Dana White, the authentic, conversational format allowed Trump to connect with audiences in ways that scripted television appearances simply couldn’t replicate.
