UFC CEO Dana White has made it crystal clear that retirement isn’t in his vocabulary, and his reasoning goes far deeper than just love of the game. During a recent workout session and tour of the UFC headquarters in Las Vegas, White opened up about his philosophy on work, purpose, and why stepping away from the grind simply isn’t an option for him.
“People keep asking me, I could have retired a long time ago, right?” White explained while showing off his office facility.
But his response to those questions reveals a mindset that has driven him throughout his career: “What the f**k am I going to do if I retired?”
White’s perspective on retirement challenges the conventional wisdom that many embrace. While others dream of endless beach vacations and mai tais, the UFC boss admits that even his most luxurious getaways have an expiration date.
“I go on great vacations after 10 days. I’m sick of putting f**king suntan lotion on. I’m sick of drinking. I’m sick of all the s**t. And I’m ready to get back to the grind,” he candidly shared.
The driving force behind White’s reluctance to retire comes down to one essential element: purpose. When his interviewer mentioned the word, White immediately agreed: “Exactly. Without purpose, it’s just like life’s goal.”
But White’s commitment to staying in the game extends beyond personal fulfillment. His focus remains firmly on growth and expansion. “As far as the business goes, I’m always thinking, how do we make the business bigger every day?” he explained.
For Dana White, retirement would mean abandoning the very thing that gives his life meaning, and that’s a trade he’s simply not willing to make.
