Dan Hooker still stands by Islam Makhachev IV Accusations

Dan Hooker stands by his allegations. Despite a lack of publicized evidence and claims to support accusations he still believes Makhachev used an IV to rehydrate in Australia.

Prior to their match, Makhachev appeared visibly exhausted during the weigh-in as he had to shed every ounce of his water weight. The toll of his grueling training camp was evident in his tear-filled eyes. While Makhachev emerged victorious with a unanimous decision at UFC 284, Volkanovski believed that the judges’ verdict was unjust.

The unfolding of events took an unexpected turn when Hooker took to Twitter to make startling claims, sending ripples throughout the MMA community. Accusing Makhachev of utilizing an IV for rehydration in his UFC 284 title defense against Alexander Volkanovski, Hooker branded him as a “cheater.”

Despite remaining resolute in his IV accusation, Hooker has adjusted his stance regarding Makhachev’s intentions.

In an appearance on The MMA Hour, Hooker expressed his unwavering belief in Makhachev’s IV usage prior to the Volkanovski match.

He wrote: “A hundred percent, in my opinion, Islam Makhachev took the IV. That’s like my opinion. I feel like potentially it might have been a genuine misunderstanding of the rules. We saw from my outburst and then USADA’s clarification and then the backlash, there’s still a lot of misunderstanding about the actual rule.”

“I couldn’t even tell you the actual rule. So, USADA’s like absolutely fine if you get a nurse to do it, but then most commissions it comes down to the local commission. It’s obviously not allowed in Australia. If you get the commission’s approval, how many commissions are approving IVs? I feel like there’s still no real clarification around the topic.”

While Makhachev remains uncertain about his next opponent, the MMA community has expressed a strong desire for a rematch between him and Charles Oliveira. Whether the UFC will grant this rematch and arrange another title fight remains to be seen.

As for Volkanovski, he is preparing for a UFC Featherweight Championship unification bout against Yair Rodriguez scheduled for UFC 290 on July 8.

The future will determine whether Makhachev and Volkanovski will cross paths again.
