In a clip that went viral, Donald “Cowboy” CerroneĀ shared a revealing anecdote about his training days at JacksonWink MMA Academy, a renowned mixed martial arts gym in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Cerrone spoke about his experience with Tim Kennedy, a fellow former UFC star, and their interactions with international guys, particularly those of Russian and Muslim backgrounds.
According to Cerrone, Kennedy would often take it upon himself to “take down” Russian and Muslim stars who trained at JacksonWink. Kennedy, a former Army Ranger and decorated war veteran, is known for his patriotic stance and unwavering commitment to American values. Cerrone described Kennedy as “as American as apple pie,” implying that his actions were motivated by a strong sense of national pride.
Cerrone recalled instances where Kennedy would engage with these men, often larger and more physically imposing, and emerge victorious.
Cerrone recounted the scenes, saying, “I’d be sitting there like, ‘Yeah, get him Tim.’ He would just annihilate him, and I loved it.” Kennedy’s aggressive approach, according to Cerrone, involved “smothering” and “rubbing their face in the metal,” a metaphor for dominating his opponents.
Cerrone, who weighed 155 pounds at the time, marveled at Kennedy’s ability to take down larger opponents, often weighing around 200 pounds.
This type of behavior isn’t really all that impressive if you consider that likelihood of injury for ego can significantly shorten your career spam and chances of succes.
Kennedy has also faced controversies in the past. He famously organized a waterboarding experiment in his backyard to be able to claim that waterboarding is not that bad.
Kennedy’s bad behavior isn’t reserved for the foreigners either. In an infamous incident he demonstrated an RNC technique on Steve O, and instead of setting him down and waking him up gently he let Steve’s head bounce of the stage causing further unnecessary trauma.
