Covington slams Justin Gaethje for claiming he could take him out on the Street

On Saturday, Colby Covington poked fun at Justin Gaethje ahead of his UFC Lightweight Championship battle against Charles Oliveira at UFC 274. Covington has a long-running feud with UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman, who is Gaethje’s training partner.

Even though Covington has lost to Usman twice, their rivalry is as lively as ever. Gaethje and ‘Chaos’ have been at odds for a long time.

Gaethje recently addressed the possibility of clashing with Covington with surprising honesty. While Justin Gathje gave credit to Covington’s wrestling and admitted he would lose to him in the octagon he was adamant he would come out ahead in a street type altercation.

The 33-year-old said that he would most likely lose to Colby Covington if they competed against each other in the UFC. This is due to the former interim champion’s grappling ability, forward pressure, and height advantage.

Covington responded to Gaethje’s remarks on his Instagram account. Covington weighed in on Gaethje’s forthcoming UFC 274 bout, calling him “duck-lip.”

He also said, “We all heard what you said to the Nelk Boys Gaethje. And even though you’re dumber than a bag of rocks, at least you’re smart enough to know if we ever get locked in a cage, I’d beat the ever-living sh** out of you, junior.”

He continued, “And if you look in the mirror, I guess two mirrors in your case – one right in front of you and another over here somewhere for that lazy eye – you look in those mirrors, and you get honest again. You know you don’t stand a chance tonight either. That’s why the people are gonna steal that Oliveira money line and make their bank accounts great again.”

Colby Covington is expected to face Khamzat Chimaev, who is unbeaten. This is in accordance with UFC president Dana White’s statement. The reported Covington-Chimaev clash, however, has yet to be verified considering UFC accidentally leaked whiteboards revealing they targeted Diaz vs Chimaev.
