Conor McGregor denies interest in Floyd Mayweather rematch

Floyd Mayweather has claimed that he and Conor McGregor are in negotiations for another lucrative bout. He’s also made comments that are sure to rile up the usually temperamental McGregor.

Mayweather won the 2017 bout against McGregor by knockout, improving his record to 50-0 in the ring.

Since then, McGregor has returned to the UFC. On the other hand, Mayweather has limited himself to lucrative exhibitions. But now Mayweather has his eyes set on a rematch with McGregor. He says talks about a rematch are already underway.

Mayweather told the Daily Mail before his next exhibition against Mikuru Asakura:

“I want to go out there this weekend and have fun, then I have another exhibition Dubai in November and me and Conor McGregor in 2023.”

“So, guys like Conor McGregor and guys that don’t really hit hard such as YouTubers or UFC guys, I don’t really mind colliding with those kinds of individuals but nothing where I am going to put myself in a position where I am going to harm myself or hurt myself.”

However, McGregor has responded by saying he is “not interested” in a rematch perhaps because of the shade included in the interview..

Rematch between McGregor and Mayweather has been shot down by McGregor. The Irishman captioned a photo from their initial encounter with the words “Not interested” and posted it.

McGregor is slow to recover from breaking his leg in the third round of his trilogy loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021, he has not competed since. Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman suffered similar leg breaks – and their careers never really recovered.

McGregor is rumored to be returning to MMA in 2023. McGregor has also claimed that when his UFC career is done, he plans to return to boxing.

In May, McGregor made this statement to Sky Sports News:

“Boxing is my first love in combat sports. I had such a great time the last time I was out there. Obviously, my return will be in the octagon for UFC – that story is far from over, in fact it’s just being written, it is just the beginning.”

“But, boxing, for sure I will grace the squared circle again in the future.”

The prospect of a pure boxing bout between Diaz and McGregor is another thing to fantasize about considering that Diaz is now a free agent.
