Conor McGregor compares Nunes & Julianna Pena to his Nate Diaz saga

Conor McGregor may have lost his best chance for a triumphant comeback with Nate Diaz’ insistence to finish out his contract. The injured Irish superstar appears to have changed his tact. While someone close to him was previously ‘allegedly’ leaking about Floyd Mayweather rematch negotiations to Irish Mirror, McGregor personally took to social media to draw historic comparisons between his situation with Nate Diaz.

UFC 277 left a lasting impression on the fans with the headlining female bout that had a lot of actions and had ended up with current and former champion looking battered just a day later.

“It’s mad to me the similarity of [the Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Peña rematch] to the McGregor-Diaz ,” McGregor said on Twitter.

“ number one, the highly touted, the GOAT of the sport, me, Amanda Nunes, just sheer toughness, willingness to fight and caught off guard. Gives a couple of shots, then eats a couple of shots, then the tide turns, then gets choked.

“Now the return, the rematch, confidence on the other side, tenacity, toughness, all that still there. More focused work on Amanda Nunes’ side, my side [against Diaz].”

McGregor released the audio (featured above) totaling up to 4 minutes, praising the twosome.

Meanwhile his own return looks as uncertain as ever. McGregor has been absent for a year following a gruesome leg break a year ago against Dustin Poirier. Since then he’s been steadily dropping in UFC rankings and hasn’t actually been in the USADA pool at all – as a reminder, it’s a requirement an athlete be in the USADA pool for 6 months prior to scheduling a bout.
