In a recent episode of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, Matt McCusker briefly addressed the state of the comedy world, describing it as a turbulent year filled with conflict among performers.
“Also, the comedy world, bit of a hot bed, a lot of turmoil going around the comedy world. A lot of a lot of comedian infighting,” Matt stated during his year-end recap. He acknowledged the prevalence of various feuds throughout 2025, noting there was “comedian versus comedian, there’s YouTuber versus comedian, there’s comedian versus YouTuber.”
Matt expressed gratitude for staying out of the drama himself. “One thing I’m grateful for in 2025 is to not have gotten caught up in any of that kind of turmoil and kind of just like this guy, that guy,” he explained.
He admitted the attention such conflicts generate makes it tempting to participate, saying a younger version of himself might have been drawn in “because you see that, that stuff gets a lot of attention.”
The host traced the current climate back to comedian Katt Williams’ viral appearance, which he believed “blew the lid off the jar when he he spilled the tea.” Matt suggested this interview, which garnered enormous viewership on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast, set a precedent that others attempted to replicate.
“I did start to see that show. I saw people come on that show trying to get their Katt Williams moment where people were trying to like, you know, give the sensational take,” though he noted “no one ever recaptured the cat crack off on the tea.”
Matt also reflected on public fascination with comedian feuds, observing that even non-comedy fans frequently ask him about conflicts and personality disputes within the industry. He found this attention misplaced, suggesting people shouldn’t scrutinize comedians so seriously.
His message for 2026 was simple: if audiences don’t enjoy a comedian’s work, they should simply tune out rather than obsess over interpersonal drama.
