Charles Oliveira throws subtle shade at Justin Gaethje ahead of title defense

I’t’s hard to root against Charles Oliveira even if he may have cheated against Poirier. Oliveira won the UFC Lightweight title after more than 10 years in the UFC. He started back in 2010 against Darren Elkins. He was just 21 at the time.

Following his story and the development of his skills is a must watch for any hardcore fan of the UFC. Oliveira captured the title, having finished Michael Chandler via TKO back at UFC 262. The two were duking it out for the title thanks to the fact that Nurmagomedov had retired from the sport of Mixed martial arts.

Oliveira went on to defend his title against Dustin Poirier just 7 months later. Poirier was fresh off the victory over Conor McGregor and was riding high on his own supply. Oliveira was quick to smother his enthusiasm and proceeded to choke him out in early round 3.

But Oliveira has another of Nurmagomedov’s foes lined up to face him in the near future. The lightweight champion is currently lined up to face Justin Gaethje at UFC 274 scheduled for May 7th.

In preparation for the bout, Oliveira subtly shaded his opponent on social media.

To the superficial gaze it appears as if Do Bronx shared a picture of himself as a characters on cult hit TV show The Simpsons – but in fact Oliveira seems to be hinting at the fact that the background of the picture features an injured Homer Simpson. This would be nothing to gawk at if it weren’t for the fact that Gaethje is frequently compared to Homer Simpson due to the shape of his scull.

Gaethje was famously referred to as Homer Simpson of MMA by veteran James Vick. Gaethje is not bothered by the comparison.

“I want that to stick around as long as possible,” Gaethje said at a media scrum in Vancouver. “I want these guys to think they’re fighting a fool and a dummy. My timing is different. They will never be able to replicate the heart rate they get when they fight me.”
