Charles Oliveira Offers Conor McGregor A Title Shot

For Charles Oliveira the road to the UFC title was long and tumultuous. Oliveira has been in the UFC since 2010. Staggering 11 years and close to 30 fights. Oliveira’s record currently stands at 32 wins, 8 losses and 1 no contest.

It’s no secret Oliveira rose from the extreme poverty of Brazilian favelas – into a champion that often gives back to his community. This kind of generosity even inspired his last opponent- Dustin Poirier to donate $20.000 to Oliveira’s hometown.

But Oliveira’s biggest payday might be lurking around the corner. UFC’s biggest superstar Conor McGregor might be looking for a way to dodge his nemesis Dustin Poirier after two straight losses. In order to accomplish this – McGregor started a publicity campaign implying that he will get the next title shot in the lightweight division to the chagrin of UFC honcho Dana White.

Last month, when being asked about who he wants to fight after he recovers, McGregor said that he wants to fight whoever has the lightweight title.

“Clicks and the like. Your boss and whatnot. The Mac. Santy Claus. I’m facing whoever the f*ck has that LW title next. Deal with it. Take off your goggles and mark the trilogy ‘unfinished’. Deal with that too.” wrote McGregor in a now-deleted tweet.

Things escalated from there.

“So, what date am I fighting Oliveira?” wrote McGregor.

However, McGregor won’t get what he wished for as the UFC president Dana White already has another lightweight fighter in mind. Former interim UFC lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje, will likely be Oliveira’s next opponent.

But now Charles Oliveira is ready to throw his hat in the ring, sort of speak. For the current lightweight champion a title defense against McGregor might do many great things. It’s all but certain it will elevate his profile in addition to sufficiently padding his bank account.

All kidding aside – Oliveira is facing a medical suspension following his bout with Poirier and McGregor still has months of recovery and rehab in order to be in fighting shape again. Not to mention dieting considering he is rumored to be weighing in at 190lbs currently.
