Professional boxer Chris Eubank Jr has disclosed that discussions have taken place regarding a potential boxing match with UFC superstar Conor McGregor. The news comes as Eubank prepares for his upcoming bout against Kamil Szeremeta in Saudi Arabia on October 12.
During a recent interview with DAZN, Eubank shared insights into various photos from his Instagram account, including one featuring himself and McGregor posing together. The middleweight boxer recounted a memorable evening in Dubai where the two crossed paths, describing it as a “crazy night out.”
Eubank elaborated on the possibility of facing McGregor in the ring, stating, “There’s actually been talks of me and him having a boxing match at some point. The fans have said that they want to see that. How interesting that would be. That’s definitely something that I’m open to exploring, let’s just say that.”
This potential matchup would not be McGregor’s first foray into professional boxing. In 2017, the Irish MMA star took a hiatus from his UFC career to face Floyd Mayweather, ultimately losing in the tenth round. Interestingly, Eubank was part of Mayweather’s training camp for that high-profile bout.
McGregor has previously expressed admiration for both Chris Eubank Sr. and Jr., praising the younger Eubank’s work rate and confidence. The UFC star commented, “Jr’s got some good work rate and he’s a confident young man he follows in his father’s footsteps.”
While both have experienced recent setbacks, their potential clash has generated significant buzz among combat sports enthusiasts. Eubank’s last event in September 2023 saw him stop Liam Smith in the tenth round of their rematch. Meanwhile, McGregor has been sidelined since 2021 due to a leg injury sustained in the octagon, with his planned June 29 return against Michael Chandler canceled due to a toe injury.
Boxer Terrence Crawford reveals the reason why he said no to McGregor two bout deal
Boxing champion Terence Crawford has revealed why he turned down a lucrative two-bout deal with MMA star Conor McGregor. The proposed matchups would have involved one boxing match and one in MMA.
While Crawford confirmed talks had taken place, he expressed strong reservations about competing in the octagon. He emphasized the significant differences between the two sports, particularly his discomfort with the physicality of MMA, including kicks and elbows. Crawford explained that despite the financial incentive, it wasn’t worth the risk, stating, “Sometimes it ain’t about the money.”
