UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn has finally broken his silence following weeks of concerning behavior on social media, responding to growing worries about his wellbeing with a cryptic Instagram post stating: “I don’t suffer from insanity, I enjoy every moment of it.”
The former two-division UFC champion has raised alarms within the MMA community in recent weeks with a series of unsettling social media posts containing serious allegations and concerning claims. Most notably, Penn posted a video of his 79-year-old mother in their kitchen, making the disturbing accusation that she was an imposter.
“This lady right here, look at her a– and legs. She is acting like my 79-year-old mother, but she is not my 79-year-old mother…She’s trying to steal everything, and this is not my mother!” Penn stated in the video.
In another troubling Instagram story, Penn made even more serious allegations against a man named Paul Abiley, claiming he had conspired with the government against Penn’s family and accusing him of harming his mother and brother.
The erratic behavior has sparked widespread concern throughout the fighting world, with many questioning if the legendary fighter might be experiencing health issues related to his long career in combat sports. Penn, who became the youngest World Jiu-Jitsu champion at 21 and the first non-Brazilian to earn that distinction, absorbed significant damage throughout his storied fighting career.
Medical experts and former stars, including Brendan Schaub, have raised concerns about the potential long-term neurological effects of repeated head trauma in combat sports. Former UFC interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin previously revealed that medical tests showed damage to his pre-frontal cortex and left hemisphere, resulting in “bouts of paranoia, fear, and anxiety.”

Despite the growing concern, Penn has not directly addressed the content of his recent posts or offered any explanation for his behavior. Instead, he shared a pixelated photo of himself in the ring with his brief statement about “enjoying” insanity.
Sadly he followed that up with more accusations targeting Mother Theresa as a CIA plant and made vague threats toward political opponents.

Penn’s recent actions have reignited important conversations about welfare and the potential long-term health consequences facing combat sports athletes after their careers end. His case highlights the need for greater support systems and medical monitoring for retired stars who may be dealing with the physical and mental aftermath of their time in the octagon.
As one of the sport’s most celebrated champions—a two-time UFC titleholder and Hall of Fame inductee—Penn’s current situation has left fans and fellow martial artists concerned for his wellbeing, hoping the UFC legend receives whatever support he might need during this challenging time.
