Comedian Bert Kreischer opened up about his relationships with Joe Rogan and fellow comedians during his recent appearance on Club Shay Shay, offering insights into the tight-knit comedy community that has shaped his career.
When discussing how success changed dynamics within his friend group, Kreischer recalled a pivotal moment with Rogan. “I remember going to Joe’s house the first time and being like what the f**k,” he said, describing his initial reaction to Rogan’s lifestyle.
He continued, “And then you get high with him and you’re high as s**t in his house, you’re like ‘Dude, there’s three wolves next door. You have a deprivation tank?’ Joe’s a really great interviewer so he always kept it at arms distance, you know.”
Kreischer explained how their podcasts evolved as friends became more successful. “My podcast changed,” he admitted. “Because I used to sit with comics and just bulls**t. And then all of a sudden comics would come on my podcast and they’d be like and like an idiot I did my podcast at my house. My house was nice. And they’d be like, ‘So, how do I get this?'”
He noted that Rogan handled these dynamics differently. “I think we did that to Joe. I think Joe is a little more relatable. I think Joe’s always kind of he’s always shut that conversation down,” Kreischer observed.
During the conversation, Kreischer also says that the turning point in his career came through Rogan’s advice. He said, “The best advice I ever got was from Rogan and I didn’t understand it,” he recalled. “We were sitting in the back of the comedy store and he goes, ‘You need a Netflix special.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah.’ I go, ‘How do I do that?’ And he just looks at me, he goes, ‘Be undeniable.'”
Kreischer described his realization of what that meant: “One night I went on stage and I watched comics jockey to get away from like they didn’t want to follow me. And I went, ‘Oh, that’s undeniable.’ And these are really good comics.”
During the conversation, the comedian also emphasized the importance of supporting fellow comics’ success, specifically mentioning Shane Gillis, Mark Norman, Big Jay Oakerson, Whitney Cummings, Andrew Santino, and Stavros Halkias.
“I have a lot of guys and I named a bunch of them in this who I worked with. Who at one point I was the dog, right? And now they’re the dogs, right? Like Shane Gillis is the man. He is the man,” Kreischer said.
